GEA - SAG Episode 501: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

All aboard the SAG Cartoon Express!

Show Notes

All aboard the SAG Cartoon Express! In our new monthly segment, Dan and Kris will watch a different random video game-related cartoon and discuss it on the show. For the inaugural episode, they sat down to view the abysmal pilot episode for the failed Bubsy cartoon. How bad was it? Let’s find out! At the top of the show, Dan and Kris caught up on life after their 500th episode, and the sheer insanity that Dan’s life has become with all the dogs that currently reside in his house. Kris actually got to play some games though, including more Vampire Survivors story mode, messing with the terrible CD-i controller releasing alongside Arzette, and more MSX Metal Gear 2, which has way more in common with Metal Gear Solid than it should. In Week Old News, Microsoft’s recent run of layoffs brings their Activision acquisition into question, Atari takes a shot at game show supremacy, Sega’s Sonic sales slump, and more!

GEA - SAG Episode 500: 500th Episode Extravaganza! Part 2

5 Hosts. 5 Top 5 Lists. 5 Chances to Win. 5 Hours. Second half

Show Notes

It’s the 500th episode of the Stone Age Gamer Podcast! Dan and Kris celebrate this milestone by joining up with previous co-hosts Mike Sheridan and Dean DeFalco as well as special guest Intrepid Editor Evan to talk about, well, 5 hours of nonsense really. The main event though was a series of Top 5 lists. Each person selected a different video game platform and created their personal lists of the top games on each. The audience also got in on the fun by sending in audio submissions, questions, and their very own top 5 lists. Strap yourselves in, because this is a looooooooong one. There was also a ceremonial passing of the torch regarding the show’s content warning, and Kris re-recorded the show’s theme song with a kazoo. Enjoy!

GEA - DC's Amazing Movie Time - Adventures in Game Chasing

Episode Notes

Did we catch you slipping? In this quirky oddity, a couple of youtubers embodying the video game equivalent of American Pickers create a feature length film with some help from friends. It's a movie full of 80's cliches, Nintendo nostalgia and some references for long time watchers of the channel.

GEA - SAG Episode 499: Not Necessarily Video Game Related

Will the first 10 20 30 40 of the year be a stinker?

Show Notes

Kris survived his surgery, and has returned to talk about video games! It’s the end of January, and that means it’s time for the first 10 20 30 40 of the year, and it’s, well, not that great. January isn’t typically the best month for gaming, but all hope isn’t lost! There are actually a small handful of notable game releases that keep things from being all awful. At the top of the show, Dan didn’t play much of anything, but Kris went hands on with the new Among Us DLC for Vampire Survivors, played a whole bunch of the Metal Gear Collection, and got to give some early impressions on the CD-i Zelda homage Arzette! Is it more than a cheap nostalgia grab? Listen on to find out! Finally, In Week Old News, Microsoft lays off a ton of people, but it’s okay because they’re one of the richest companies in the world. Atari music comes to vinyl, but at a price, the composer who wrote the Super Mario Bros. theme gets inducted into the hall of fame, and a whole lot more.

GEA - SAG - After School Special

While Kris is away Dan and his kids will play

Show Notes

Kris is out this week recovering from oral surgery so Dan and his kids take the reins and try to keep things on the rails. They talk about what they’ve been playing, the Xbox Developer Showcase, and more in the first half of the show then dive headfirst into the kids' picks for game of the year 2023 and what they are excited for in 2024. The language, despite Dan’s somewhat half-hearted efforts, remains as salty as ever. (just what you’d expect from this show) While the countdown to episode 500 hit a bump in the road this week, rest assured that the show itself did not.
