GEA - SAG Episode 555: The Same Root Vegetables at the Same Time

Did this February 10 20 30 40 bring us the worst single month yet?!?

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris bring you the February 10 20 30 40 for 2025, and it’s a doozie. Some truly barren release schedules are saved by some fun mispronunciations on Kris’s part, as well as some genuinely great months for some handhelds, and the end days of the 16-bit console wars. Just how bad did things get during the US video game crash? Let’s find out! In Week Old News, Switch games prove to be more fireproof than anyone expected, more industry layoffs make everyone sad, but then Devolver Digital released a trailer for a game called Shotgun Cop Man, and smiles returned. Also, Nintendo sued the crap out of a company for ripping off Pokemon, so that was fun.
Finally, Dan got himself a new car, we read some excellent listener mail, define the term “guilty pleasures,” discuss the ending of Stray, and a whole lot more. Enjoy!

The Alphabet Soup-er Series returns with a visit from Tony Hawk

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan’s pick for the Alphabet Soup-er Series was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, a game that Kris has surprisingly never played. How does it hold up? Is the game as good as its soundtrack? How many dumb skateboarding terms can Kris conjure to make it sound like he know what he’s talking about? Let’s find out! Then, in Week Old News, Sony hit us with a rather impressive State of Play, including fresh looks at Monster Hunter, that new Shinobi game, and more. Plus, Jeff Minter reimagines yet another Atari arcade classic, the creator of Dadish is back with an emotionally unstable cactus, PSN’s outage raises preservation questions, and more. Finally, Dan still hasn’ tbeen able to play much since his hands aren’t working all that well, and Kris got hit with a snow day, so his playtime was truncated as well. But he did get to see the new Captain America movie, which was pretty rad. Enjoy!

The SAG Cartoon Express meets Darkstalkers

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris ride the Cartoon Express all the way to Capcom’s Darkstalkers! And guess what! It was wretched! How anyone was able to take Capcom’s awesome character designs and turn them into something this awful is beyond us. But what was the worst offender? What’s the next stop on the express? Let’s find out! At the top of the show, Dan continued to struggle to use his hands, so his game playing time was limited. But Kris spent some time with Looney Landers, the new VCS title front eh creator of Donut Dodo, the surprisingly solid version of Stray for Switch, the Dog Man game, and more.
Finally, in Week Old News, pinball is great, people like Mega Man, a Intellivision Amico rises from the dead, and more. Enjoy!

GEA - DC's Amazing Movie Time - Prey

Episode Notes

Prey is a movie that somewhat hides the fact it's a Predator movie, and it's better for it because it's a good self contained early north america period action movie where a Predator is in the background. Is it the best Predator movie?

GEA - SAG Episode 552: An Infusion of Hot Furniture

The first 10 20 30 40 of the year!

Show Notes

On this week’s podcast, Dan and Kris bring you the first 10 20 30 40 of the year, and it’s, well, kind of underwhelming. There were a few massive games, to be sure, as well as some acknowledgements of platforms they (Kris) failed to cover last year, but all in all, January was kinda bland. But you should enjoy it anyway!
At the top of the show, it was another week of not too many games being played, as Dan gets caught moving furniture in the rain, and Kris drinks way more water than he’s used to. Dan did play a little PAD, both of the guys tried the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, and Kris finally puts Undertale behind him.
Finally, in Week Old News, Ubisoft unsurprisingly continues to be awful, while the VGHF launches their brilliant digital archive, Atari fans perhaps think a little too highly of the VCS, and more. Enjoy!
